Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How long do facelift results last?

A facelift performed with advanced deep-plane techniques can deliver results that last 10–15 years. While no surgery can completely stop the natural process of aging, most patients enjoy a refreshed, youthful appearance for a decade or more. The beauty of an approach that treats the deeper layers of the face is that you continue to age more gracefully, without the “tight” or artificial look of older facelift styles.

2. What makes a deep-plane facelift different from a SMAS facelift?

The SMAS is the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system of the face - the layer of fascia investing the muscles of facial expression deep to the skin and subcutaneous fat. A “SMAS facelift” can refer to any of three facelift techniques: High-SMAS, SMASectomy, or SMAS plication. Each of these techniques modifies the SMAS in different ways.

Of the SMAS techniques, the High-SMAS facelift is closest to the deep-plane facelift, with differences in SMAS flap design, deep plane entry point, and the extent of skin undermining and vectoring. When properly performed, both the High-SMAS and the deep plane facelift release the deep retaining ligaments and lift and reposition the tissues of the face. SMASectomy and SMAS plication techniques modify the SMAS (by removing a redundant part of it and re-suturing the edges, or tightening the SMAS over itself, respectively) but without performing a full dissection in the sub-SMAS “deep” plane.

Any of the techniques discussed can create a natural-looking result when properly performed; the key is in choosing the right technique for the right patient, taking into consideration their unique facial anatomy, as well as their aging or weight loss pattern, their aesthetic vision, downtime constraints, baseline health, and long-term goals.

3. Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

The best candidates are generally healthy women and men who notice sagging in the cheeks, jawline, and neck related to age, weight loss, or both. Many of our patients are in their 40s to 70s, but candidacy depends more on anatomy and goals than on age alone. A private consultation helps determine if a facelift or other surgical or nonsurgical techniques (or no procedures at all) are best suited for you.

4. How long is the recovery after a facelift?

Most patients are comfortable enough to return to their usual daily activities within 10–14 days, and social activities around 2–3 weeks. Swelling and fine refinements continue to settle over several months, but each week brings you closer to your final result. Dr Ramly and his team provide concierge-level recovery guidance and direct availability to make the process as smooth and discreet as possible.

5. Will I look unnatural or “pulled”?

No. The Ramly Method — and the essence of modern facelift techniques — centers around gracefully restoring your natural facial harmony, not changing who you are. Friends and family will often say you look rested, vibrant, or refreshed, rather than “surgical”. Quiet refinement is the goal.

6. Where are the scars placed?

Facelift incisions are designed to be discreetly hidden along and behind the natural curves of the ear and hairline. They eventually fade and become nearly imperceptible. In most social settings, they are invisible to others.

7. How much does a facelift in Beverly Hills cost?

Facelift pricing varies based on technique, complexity, and whether additional procedures — such as neck lift, fat grafting, eyelid, or eyebrow surgery — are performed. At Ramly Plastic Surgery, we provide a personalized plan based on your specific anatomy and the procedures you are seeking, with transparent pricing after your consultation.
